The Boyan Ensemble came into existence in 1990 as the chamber ensemble of the Revutsky State Male Voice Choir of Kyiv, Ukraine, specialising in Ukrainian and Slavonic Byzantine-rite church music and Ukrainian folk songs. Boyan has performed in many countries of Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, singing in countless concerts, liturgies and other events. The ensemble also makes an annual UK tour and has gained a considerable following in this country. It has participated in numerous international festivals and made a number of recordings.
Boyan’s founder, Bohdan Antkiv, was born in Ternopil in Western Ukraine. He studied choral music at the Lviv Music Academy with the eminent musician and composer Mykola Kolessa. In 1969 he was appointed conductor of the Dumka Ukrainian National Choir and in 1984 became principal conductor and artistic director of the Revutsky Choir.
