The virtuoso accordionist and composer Chango Spasiuk was born in 1968 in north eastern Argentina, an area whose society is made up of Guarani Indians, Caribbean Creoles and early 20th century Eastern European immigrants. Among the latter were Ukrainians, to whom Spasiuk is linked by virtue of his two Ukrainian grandparents.
Spasiuk transforms the Chamamé, a local form of rural dance music, into an elaborate art form presented mainly in concert settings.
