Violinist Dmytro Tkachenko was born in Kyiv and studied there at the Lysenko Music School and the National Music Academy of Ukraine. In 1998 he was invited to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and in the following year was awarded the Guildhall School Concert Recital Diploma (Premier Prix). In 2002 he was made a Fellow of the Guildhall School.
His successes in competitions include First Prize at the Lysenko Competition (Kyiv, 1997) and Second Prize at the Carl Nielsen Competition (Odense, Denmark, 2000). He inspired the establishment of the Benjamin Britten International Violin Competition and is its Artistic Director.
Dmytro Tkachenko has toured extensively as a soloist in Europe, Japan and the USA. In the UK his appearances include performances at the South Bank Centre and the Barbican Hall in London.
