Petro Wychrij, tenor, was born in Oldham of mixed Ukrainian and English parentage. Influenced by his background, he has sung with various choirs within the UK Ukrainian community. He started studying privately with Patrick McGuigan in November 2000, and in September 2001 gave up his career in marketing to study full time as a postgraduate student at the Royal Northern College of Music.
He has sung the roles of Siward in Martin Butler’s Better Place and the cover role of Chekalinsky in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades, both at the RNCM, as well as Remendado in Bizet’s Carmen at the Aberdeen Youth Festival.
