| About Ukrainian |
Communicating by
email in Ukrainian can sometimes be more problematical than viewing web pages
because the software used by both the sender and recipient of a message has to
be able to handle Ukrainian text correctly. In many situations, however, there
should be no problem.
Ukrainian text is handled correctly by several popular web-based email services. For example, if you use Yahoo! Mail and your computer is configured to input Ukrainian text, you can write your message in Ukrainian. If the recipient’s email service handles Ukrainian, he/she should be able to read the message. If at first the received message is undecipherable, the appropriate encoding scheme should be selected (see Web pages).
If you download your
incoming email messages for storing on your computer (as opposed to leaving them
in your mailbox on your service provider’s server), whether or not you will be
able to read any Ukrainian text they contain will depend on your email program.
For example, if you use Outlook Express you should not have a problem, though
you may need to select the correct encoding scheme via the
Format menu in the message window.
