Books in English about Ukraine began to appear in significant numbers after the Second World War. Some were written by non-Ukrainian scholars, others by Ukrainians who had settled in the West after being displaced from their homeland during the war, or by their descendants born in the West. Interest in the study of Ukraine in the English-speaking world intensified after the country’s 1991 declaration of independence, and this led to a new surge in the publication of books on the subject.

This section of the site gives details of selected English-language books on a wide range of topics relating to Ukraine, and also works of Ukrainian literature in English translation.
